PRESS: Novatek to begin LNG deliveries via Northern Route in Feb
MOSCOW, Jan 13 (PRIME) --Russian independent gas producer Novatek and nuclear corporation Rosatom may start in February icebreakers-accompanied deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Novatek’s Yamal LNG production plant to Asia via the Northern Sea Route, Kommersant business daily reported on Wednesday.
“In February, Novatek and Rosatom may begin early icebreakers-accompanied supplying of LNG tankers via the Eastern section of the Northern Sea Route. This may help Novatek use a steep rise in spot prices for LNG in Asia,” the daily reported.
Russia hopes that the Northern Sea Route, which runs from Murmansk on the Barents Sea to the Bering Strait near Alaska, could substitute the Suez Canal by cutting the time of sea deliveries from Asia to Europe. The route’s capacity should grow to 80 million tonnes until 2024.
